MIAMI — Silversea has officially named Silver Nova in a ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, calling it the most environmentally-conscious ultra-luxury ship ever built.
The 728-guest ship was front and centre yesterday, Jan. 4, as Barbara Muckermann, President of Silversea, and Jason Liberty, President and CEO of parent company Royal Caribbean Group, kicked off the festivities, which included customary bagpipes and an exclusive screening of a commemorative video to honour Silversea’s 30th anniversary.
Muckermann and Liberty also announced Nina Compton, celebrated chef, restaurateur and television personality, as Silver Nova’s godmother.
“After years of research, development, and collaboration, we are all incredibly proud to officially welcome Silver Nova into Royal Caribbean Group’s fleet. Silver Nova is a game changer, a new vision for the ultra-luxury travel experience,” said Liberty. “We will continue to push boundaries and innovate the vacation experience in 2024 with our three global brands that, together, turn the vacation of a lifetime into a lifetime of vacations for our guests around the world.”
Muckermann added: “It is fitting that we officially named Silver Nova – a truly pioneering ship – in the same year Silversea celebrates its 30th anniversary: the ship connects our history with our tomorrow, striking a perfect balance between our Brand’s refined heritage and the future of ultra-luxury cruise travel.”
Silver Nova departed on its maiden voyage from Venice on Aug. 14, 2023. Following the naming ceremony, it is now undertaking its first Grand Voyage – Grand Voyage South America 2024 – during which it will circumnavigate the continent and call in 38 destinations in 18 countries over 71 days.
Considered one of the most spacious cruise ships ever built, Silver Nova boasts a space-to-guest ratio of 75 GRT-per guest, the highest in Silversea’s fleet. It also offers a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.3, including butler service for all suites, and hosts up to 728 guests in 13 different suite categories, the largest variety of suites in Silversea’s history. Other highlights include a reimagined pool deck that overlooks the water on the starboard side, and all-new outdoor venues including the Disk Bar and the Marquee.
