It seems like e-ticketing has been around forever – but back when this story ran, it was still new technology.
The headline for this edition of ‘It Happened This Week’ is: ‘Agents will have to wait until next year for electronic ticketing’
As the story notes, Air Canada’s e-ticketing test runs had been up and running for several months, and the airline was hoping to have it widely available through travel agencies by the end of the year this story ran. However Doug Port, Air Canada’s then-SVP Sales and Product Distribution, told agents at an ACV appreciation dinner that Air Canada would be the fourth carrier in North America to have e-ticketing available through travel agencies, in the new year.
“We are the only airline in the world introducing electronic ticketing in an OPTAT (paper ticket) environment,” said an Air Canada spokesperson when this story ran. “We are putting a great deal of resources into this. The issue is to make sure we do it properly.”
