TORONTO — When deciding on a venue to introduce its third brochure to the media, Transat Discoveries’ Sales Director, Dan Prior, thought there’d be no better place than the CN Tower. After all, the iconic landmark shares with the tour operator a sense of adventure and discovery.
Travel agents will find these two themes throughout the 2013-2014 edition, which features new and returning tours to Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. As a division of Transat Holidays with its own specialized team, Transat Discoveries has done well in its primary Quebec market, though with this new brochure it hopes to increase its presence in English-speaking Canada.
Currently in distribution in travel agencies across Ontario, the brochure presents a complete offering around the world. New travel options and destinations like Borneo, India, Malaysia, Myanmar and Croatia will make their debut, as well as a selection of guided tours.
Prior thinks Africa will come back in a big way next year, with the newly added ‘Splendours of Kenya’ tour leading the surge. This high-end tented encampment itinerary is perfect for families in search of unforgettable adventures.
There’s also the new ‘Treasures of Croatia’ program that highlights the country’s beautiful islands and coastlines with stops at various UNESCO World Heritage sites and visits to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Also new is the ‘Splendours of Greece’ itinerary, which follows the unique travel style of the popular ‘Turkey: Ottoman Discoveries’ program introduced earlier this year. Clients will stay in charming, authentic hotels and can plan their island-hopping vacation at the beginning or end of this eight-day tour.
For a touch of the exotic, suggest the new ‘India: Wonders of Rajasthan’ tour, a 16-day itinerary that showcases the country’s northern region. Clients will stay in heritage hotels and experience an oasis camp.
To offer even more flexibility and custom-made options, Transat Discoveries has also unveiled ‘Mini Discoveries’ and ‘Seaside Discoveries’ as à la carte add-ons that precede or follow a guided tour. Mini Discoveries are short-duration tours of varying length, available for all programs, while Seaside Discoveries are comprised of beach stays of varying durations.
When asked what sets Transat Discoveries apart from the competition, Prior points to a number of factors. The company’s inclusive-style programming adds extra value, which in turn makes its tours an easy sell for travel agents. All itineraries can be customized, which is a huge selling point especially for group travel. Travellers won’t be shepherded around in huge groups either – tours carry a maximum of 25 passengers (on Turkey itineraries, the max is 16). Additionally, the company is going above and beyond to make clients feel at ease with new accompanied departures. Now, escorted departures from Canada to such exotic destinations as Kenya ensure that travellers will be taken care of throughout their entire journey.
To sweeten the deal, a number of promotions are available, including the Best Price Guarantee and a reduced deposit ($250 instead of $500) when clients book by Dec. 15, 2013. Other promos like the Early Booking Bonus, Cash Payment, Repeat Traveller and a Referral Bonus of $30 are also available and combinable, allowing clients to save up to $350 on their package.
