BERLIN – Dozens of flights are being cancelled at Germany’s Dusseldorf and Cologne-Bonn airports after private security workers walked off the job in a dispute over wages.

Cologne-Bonn was cancelling 40 of 190 flights and Dusseldorf 205 of 530 on Thursday due to the one-day warning strike, the dpa news agency reported.

Three rounds of talks have failed and the ver.di union called the strike to put pressure on employers ahead of a new round of negotiations scheduled to start Feb. 5.

Employers so far have rejected the union’s demand for pay raises of between 1.5 euros ($1.70) and 2.5 euros ($2.83) an hour for the private security workers.
