In 1949, Trans Canada Airlines (TCA now Air Canada) began its weekly service of Canada to Barbados, a 15 hour journey for the 44 passengers via The Bahamas and Jamaica that left on December 2 and arrived on December 3 on the island of Barbados. Barbados Tourism video Sixty five years later in 2014, Air Canada has introduced a Boeing 777 offering daily direct service from Toronto Pearson to Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown, and offers three times a week daily direct service from Montreal to Barbados.

To celebrate this long-term relationship, Air Canada passengers were welcomed at the gate at Pearson with live steel pan music and while boarding, gifted with commemorative leather coasters. True to the fun-loving spirit of Bajans, passengers were welcomed by dancers and music on the tarmac upon arrival in Bridgetown as well as given commemorative certificates.
