MIAMI — Bookings have opened for Virgin Voyages’ inaugural pre-summer voyages on the Valiant Lady, scheduled to make its debut in Europe in Spring 2022.

The ship will sail from the U.K. next spring to top islands and cities in Europe, including late-night and overnight stays in Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, the Canary Islands, Lisbon and Belgium.

Like the Scarlet Lady that came before it, Valiant Lady will feature a glamourous new mermaid at the helm that resembles “a real black woman with authentic features and characteristics,” said the company. Emblazoned on the bow of the ship, the mermaid “captures the energy of a woman moving confidently towards her dreams” and celebrates the “strong, beautiful, friendly and modern embodiment of a black American woman.”

Virgin Voyages’ leading ladies – its mermaids – are an important symbol for the brand and are meant to keep sailors safe on their voyage. According to the company, it was a natural move to honour and represent different races and nationalities, providing a platform for international artists to represent their various backgrounds.
