“Rediscover Atlantic City and all we have to offer”: Meet AC

Restrictions at the Canada-U.S. border could begin to ease any day now, and that’s great news for Canadian travel agents and their U.S.-bound clients. For this edition of Take 5 we check in with Heather Colache, Tourism Account and Film Commission Director for Meet AC, to find out what’s new in the destination, and why it’s an ideal option for getaways in the post-pandemic boom times.

1. Why is Atlantic City well-positioned as an excellent option for Canadian travel agents looking to book their clients on that first post-pandemic U.S. getaway?

“From top-notch dining experiences, to luxury hotel accommodations, entertainment, the Atlantic City Boardwalk – which is the famed promenade known for the roaring sea and dozens of confection shops and amusements – not to mention 9 casino resorts all along white sandy beaches and the Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic City has more options to make it a perfect and safe getaway. A drive down the East Coast or combining with nearby destinations makes Atlantic City the perfect vacation spot. We are fully open and ready to help you create everlasting memories.”

2. What’s new in Atlantic City?

“Bally’s Atlantic City is getting a US$90 million upgrade. Ocean Casino Resort is investing $15 million in renos. Caesars Entertainment is investing $400 million into its Atlantic City resorts by 2023. Showboat Hotel is launching New Jersey’s largest arcade, Lucky Snake, and is also undertaking a complete reno of its Showboat Hotel Tower. Showboat is also breaking ground in the near future on the construction of a new waterpark and family entertainment centre. And Hard Rock Atlantic City is investing a minimum of $20 million into suite renovations, a new dining outlet, more slots and table games, and a refresh of its beachfront amenities. There are many new and exciting things happening in Atlantic City that visitors can look forward to in summer 2021 and beyond.”

3. Many people think they know Atlantic City, but in fact their concept of the destination might be outdated. What are some misperceptions about Atlantic City, and what’s the real story?

“There is a misperception that Atlantic City is strictly a gaming destination, however that couldn’t be further from the truth. With world-class dining, tax-free shopping, entertainment, watersports, fishing, golfing and nightlife, Atlantic City offers something for everyone and appeals to all budgets.”

4. How is Atlantic City rebounding so far? What’s the vibe in the destination?

“Summer is the season! Sunny skies, blue ocean, white sandy beaches and the smell of suntan lotion in the air. Domestic travel came back strong July 3, 2020, when our casinos reopened, and has kept up the momentum. Atlantic City has always been a popular drive market and visitor numbers continue to grow especially for summer and fall 2021.”

5. What resources does Meet AC have for travel agents, and what’s your message for Canadian travel agents?

“Tour AC, Atlantic City’s group website, is filled with sample itineraries, casinos packages, free things to do, videos, podcasts, blogs and more. Rediscover Atlantic City and all we have to offer. Large or small groups, families or single travellers will find something new each time they visit our seaside destination.”
