ORLANDO — Anyone who’s ever waited for bus transportation to get around Walt Disney World Resort – especially on a hot day with little kids in tow – will be thrilled to hear that the Florida resort is reportedly looking at cable cars as a new means to move guests between select parks and Disney hotels.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, plans filed with the South Florida Water Management District suggest Disney is laying the groundwork for an extensive system of overhead cable cars. Reports indicate that the cable cars would transport guests between Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Art of Animation Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort and Epcot.
While Disney does an admirable job of getting guests from place to place on its sprawling network of buses, the ground-based transportation system may be reaching its peak in terms of capacity and efficiency. And experts say Disney is unlikely to expand its popular monorail system due to cost.
